You know fall is well under way when WEMU’s free 5:01 Jazz shows start back up.  We are honored to kick off the series with the Andy Adamson Quartet on Friday, October 7th at Rush Street Nightclub, in Ann Arbor.  An Ann Arbor native, Andy Adamson is a veteran of many outstanding regional bands:  Dick Siegel’s Ministers of Melody, Norma Jean Bell and The All Stars and F.U.B.A.R.  Andy can play it all, but jazz is his first love.

The cast of players involved with Ann Arbor’s dioxane problem has changed many times over in the thirty years since the contamination was first discovered.  Some say that’s part of the problem:  it’s hard to stay motivated to tackle problems that go on seemingly indefinitely. Luckily, there are a few people in the community who have stuck with it, keeping the issue in the public forum.  In this segment of WEMU’s “The Green Room,” we talk with one of them.


Governor Rick Snyder is boosting the position of Michigan chief medical executive to his official inner circle.  The governor says he wants to streamline how critical public health information reaches him.  That was one of the problems identified by a task force that looked into how the Flint water crisis occurred.

Governor Rick Snyder is defending a move by a board he appointed to oversee Flint.  The Receivership Transition Advisory Board (RTAB) has come under fire for revoking Flint’s ability to sue the state.

I spoke with EMU's Vice President of Communications Walter Kraft, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Calvin Phillips, and Police Chief Bob Heighes in a live, in-studio interview on Tuesday afternoon about what happened.
