The cause of death was not disclosed. She made her first appearance on the screen at the age of 3, and by the time she turned 13, she had already appeared in 46 feature films. She made seven movies in 1934 alone, including Bright Eyes, in which she sang the song with which she was most closely identified, “The Good Ship Lollipop.” She did a memorable tap dance with Bill “Bojangles” Robinson in the Civil War musical The Little Colonel. During the Great Depression, She was the top box-office attraction from 1935 through 1938. At one point, President Franklin Roosevelt famously declared, “As long as our country has Shirley Temple, we will be all right.” In middle age she was a diplomat to the UN and ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia and finally chief of protocol at the State Department.</div><p> Thu, 13 Feb 2014 15:17:09 +0000 Patrick Campion 41509 at http://wemu.org Remembering Shirley Temple Black and Sid Caesar; Events for Your Valentine's Weekend Aaron Neville’s “My True Story” Most-Played CD on WEMU Sweet Sixteen http://wemu.org/post/aaron-neville-s-my-true-story-most-played-cd-wemu-sweet-sixteen <p><span style="font-size: 14.4px; line-height: 16.8px;">Given the repertoire, it was only natural that Aaron Neville’s “My True Story” would be the most-played CD on</span>&nbsp;WEMU<span style="font-size: 14.4px; line-height: 16.8px;">.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1.2em; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman',Times,serif; font-size: 14.4px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 16.8px; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">&nbsp;It is his stroll down memory lane from the “doo&nbsp;wop<span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp;</span>era”, but it is also the soundtrack of so many of our lives cast through the prism of the pristine voice of Aaron Neville.&nbsp;<span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp;</span></p><p><embed allowfullscreen="false" base="http://www.npr.org" height="386" quality="best" scale="showall" src="http://www.npr.org/v2/?i=170012781&amp;m=170135501&amp;t=audio" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="800" wmode="opaque"><span style="font-size: 14.4px; line-height: 16.8px;">We received many requests for it plus we wanted to call attention to Neville’s interviews on “Morning Edition” from NPR and “Bob Edwards Weekend” about the authentic music and Neville’s undeniable soul.&nbsp; Pristine is also a way I’d describe the recording’s production values.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1.2em; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman',Times,serif; font-size: 14.4px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 16.8px; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">No expense was spared in the mix or mastering.&nbsp;<span class="Apple-converted-space">&nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1.2em; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman',Times,serif; font-size: 14.4px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 16.8px; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Producers Don Was and Keith Richards have created an American treasure with “My True Story”.&nbsp; If you’re looking for special Valentine’s Day dinner music, this would be perfect.</p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1.2em; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman',Times,serif; font-size: 14.4px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 16.8px; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">More: &nbsp;<a href="http://aaronneville.com/video/">aaronneville.com/video/</a></p><p style="margin: 0px 0px 1.2em; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Georgia,'Times New Roman',Times,serif; font-size: 14.4px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 16.8px; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);"> Thu, 07 Feb 2013 15:07:24 +0000 Linda Yohn 25246 at http://wemu.org Aaron Neville’s “My True Story” Most-Played CD on WEMU Sweet Sixteen
