Ypsilanti, MI – Ypsilanti's city council has gone on record asking the state to help it pay for providing fire protection to the Eastern Michigan University campus. A resolution seeking the funding was approved by council Tuesday night. Council member Brian Filipiak says the service provided to EMU goes beyond fire protection by including training and workshops for different groups on campus. He says it's important that the city be fully compensated for those efforts.
Ypsilanti, MI – Ypsilanti's city council has approved a new contract with the city's higher-ranking police officers. The contract with the Command Officers Association of Michigan runs from July first of last year through June 30th of this year. With this contract in place, all of the city's union contracts now expire at the same time. Police seargents get a three percent raise in the new contract while lieutenants get a four-and-a-half percent pay increase. The raises are retroactive to July first of last year.
