Ann Arbor, MI – Ann Arbor's city council has approved a resolution calling for end to the war in Iraq. Council voted 10 to 1 Monday night to approve the resolution, which says the city's share of the costs of the war is nearing 83-million dollars. The resolution also calls for the funds currently being spent on the war to be transferred to efforts to meet the needs of America's most vulnerable people.
Washtenaw County, MI – Voters across Washtenaw County head to the polls Tuesday to vote on a plan to collect a two-tenths of a mil tax to upgrade the radio communications system for emergency responders. In addition to the county-wide millage election, voters in Superior Township will be voting on a tax to create a legal defense fund to battle unwanted development. Ypsilanti, MI – Retired General John Coburn addressed Eastern Michigan University graduates during commencement ceremonies Sunday. Ypsilanti, MI – The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department appears headed toward a two-million dollar deficit this year, primarily due to jail overcrowding which has forced the department to send inmates to jails in other counties. Washtenaw County commissioners expressed disappointment and concern, not just over the spending, but also over Sheriff Dan Minzey's decision not to attend Wednesday night's meeting.
