Ypsilanti, MI – The Ypsilanti School Board has approved a new contract with the district's teachers. Last night's unanimous vote puts a contract in place from August 30th of this year through August 31st of 2007. Ypsilanti Education Association President Kelly Powers says teachers have already given their overwhelming approval to the new contract, and she says morale is high, as it's the first time in a long time that teachers will be able to go into summer break knowing they have a contract in place.

Washtenaw County, MI – It's election day in Washtenaw County. There are school board elections in all nine school districts in the county, plus a county-wide millage for a new radio communications system for emergency responders. Voters in Superior Township will also decide a separate millage to raise money to defend the township's master growth plan. Polls are open until 8 o'clock tonight. Remember to vote today!
Ypsilanti, MI – The city of Ypsilanti will have a new Mayor after the November general elections. Cheryl Farmer has decided against seeking a fourth tem in office. She says the business demands of her medical practice have grown, and she can no longer ask her partners to accommodate her Mayoral schedule. Farmer says it's been an honor to serve Ypsilanti and its residents over the last eleven-plus years.
