Ray Mullins thinks America needs some people in congress who "give a damn about the poor and middle class."  The Ypsilanti Attorney faces Debbie Dingell in the Democratic primary for the 12th U-S House district.

Education, funding for infrastructure to help provide jobs, and support of a living wage are the top priorities of congressional candidate Ray Mullins.  Mullins says he will also work to bring together Detroit and suburban communities.

Mullins says growing up poor has better prepared him to help poor and middle class families than Dingell, "She has not really shown any evidence of understanding what it's like to be poor.  And not just for African Americans but for Appalachian whites."

Mullins is challenging Dingell to a debate.

He also questions why Dingell, as an executive at General Motors while the company eliminated thousands of jobs, has won endorsement from the U-A-W.  Dingell is seeking to win the seat her husband John Dingell has held since the mid 1950's.  Hear 89.1 WEMU's Bob Eccles'  interview with Debbie Dingell Wednesday during All Things Considered.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
