After receiving recommendations from theAnn Arbor Human Rights Commission, some Ann Arbor city council members want to make improvements to the police department.

City Council member SabraBriere from the first ward agrees with the commission that an independent civilian review board is needed.  She believes many factors lead to resident profiling.

"Where they live, what they look like, what their age is, some people will automatically be considered problems."

The human rights commission is also asking the council to hire a police auditor.

On a related topic,  the council's regularly scheduled meeting for tonight has been canceled, because they are not ready to start budget or capital improvement planning discussions that were slated for this evening.
