An Ann Arbor summer tradition is moving one block south, this year.
The Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s Top of the Park is relocating temporarily for the 2015 season within the University of Michigan campus
Construction under the University of Michigan's Ingalls Mall is forcing the Ann Arbor Summer Festival's Top of the Park to be relocated for a year. Ann Arbor Summer Festival officials considered a wide variety of sites across the city, and even in neighboring communities. They have finally settled on moving to North University Avenue and the South Ingalls Mall.
While relocation site details are still being finalized with partners at the University, City of Ann Arbor, and key constituents, festival planners will work with the Ann Arbor's SmithGroupJJR design firm to design the site. Executive Director, Amy Nesbitt says having all of the venues and attractions close together is an important part of being a true festival.
In a press release Monday, Nesbitt assured festival attendees the fest would offer many quality activities as it had in the past, saying,
This year's Top of the Park will be different, but nearly all of the programming the community has come to know and love will continue at the new site. There will be challenges to this site as every site we considered had challenges, but we feel that this space has the best potential for the event in 2015.
With only 6 months remaining to complete this work, the festival team is focused on best outcomes and ensuring that projects can be successfully produced. The festival has a stellar production team, a highly active volunteer board, and incredible supporters in the community ready to help make next summer a success. We look forward to presenting another season of top quality live performances, film screenings, and the community activities that have made the Ann Arbor Summer Festival a cultural magnet in our region.
With planning continuing, Nesbitt stated the festival hopes to offer a main stage, an accoustic stage, the kids zone, party tents, and food vendors.
The Ann Arbor Summer Festival’s 32nd season runs from June 12–July 5, 2015. For more information, stay tuned to WEMU throughout the year, and visit the festival website at www.a2sf.org
