'The Bubble' Collapses At Eastern Michigan University

Twitter user @MistyBrosky

News tipsters informed WEMU that the indoor practice facility at Eastern Michigan University, known as "The Bubble," collapsed earlier this morning.  EMU has confirmed this in an official statement noting that a split in the fabric of the roof caused a slow collapse. Two soccer teams were practicing in the facility at the time and were able to evacuate with no issues.

Twitter user @IanWingate says that the dome "ripped in half" and Twitter user @MistyBrosky posted a picture of the dome lying on the ground.

EMU's Geoff Larcom issued this statement:

At approximately 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the fabric began to split from east to west in the Indoor Practice Facility at Eastern Michigan University and the air-supported structure began to deflate. Two area soccer teams were practicing in the facility at the time and left the facility without incident and without injury. We are assessing the situation to determine the cause of the fabric split.
