Budget Revisions May Prevent Layoffs

By Bob Eccles

Ypsilanti, MI – Ypsilanti City Manager Ed Koryzno has presented city council with a budget proposal that does not involve layoffs.
Koryzno says the city can balance its budget by eliminating a 150-thousand dollar fire supression system for the D-P-S garage, reducing some post-employment benefits for municipal employee retirement system participants, and keeping funding for the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority at levels identified a year ago in the target budget plan.
The city manager had previously suggested laying off three firefighters as part of the plan to balance the city's budget.
