Chip Smith Wins 5th Ward Ann Arbor City Council Election

Chrissy Deiger/Chip Smith

After beating 5th Ward Ann Arbor city council member Mike Anglin in the primary election, Chip Smith celebrated another victory last night in the general election.

The professional planner got 81% of the votes while write-in candidate and University of Michigan Hospital nurse Kevin Leeser got 19%.

Leeser said he originally entered the race so residents could have a choice at the polls since many candidates in Ann Arbor run unopposed.

As a council member, Smith plans to improve the relationship the city has with residents by making sure concerns brought to council are addressed in a timely manner.

Smith also wants to improve pedestrian safety by implementing more snow removal requirements and looking at ways to help bicyclists stay safe on the roads.
