City of Ann Arbor Taking Steps To Improve Pedestrian Safety

carmanah.com

The city of Ann Arbor could soon get more Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons for pedestrian crossings.  City Council has it as part of its agenda for Monday night's meeting

The beacons are pedestrian-initiated warning lights that are activated by pressing a button at crosswalks.  Councilwill vote on a resolution, that, if approved, would provide over $27,000 in federal funding to install three of them on West Stadium Boulevard.  Council member SabraBriere from the 1st Ward explains.

"They are near Liberty, Thaler, and Collingwood. Those are three established mid-block crossings on Stadium."

The city would have to provide close to $38,000 for the project that will improve pedestrian safety.
