Dems Back Interest Refund for College Students

By Bob Eccles

Ypsilanti, MI – State Representative Pam Byrnes has introduced legislation to refund interest paid on college loans to students who study in specific fields, and take and hold jobs in Michigan.
The Lyndon Township democrat says the idea is to get more graduates to stay in the state.
To be eligible, students would have to earn degrees in fields like computer and information sciences, engineering, and biological or bio-medical sciences. They'd then need to land a job in Michigan and keep it for five years.
Those students would then be eligible for a grant to cover the interest they've paid on their college loans.
