Ypsilanti, MI – If all goes as planned, Ypsilanti's Frog Island and Riverside parks will soon become public health and fitness areas, and host a number of music events as well.
Depot Town Community Development officials have announced a three-year effort to raise nearly three million dollars to improve the parks and promote a wider variety of events at each one.
Depot Town merchants have committed 50-thousand dollars to get the project rolling. Eastern Michigan University, the city, county, St. Joe's hospital, and others are making in-kind contributions.
Fundraising from foundations and other sources is already underway.
The plan calls for a series of jazz, blues, and other music events beginning next summer.
