Drunk Drivers Will Pay More in Ypsi

By Bob Eccles

Ypsilanti, MI – Convicted durnk drivers in Ypsilanti will be required to pay part of the cost of their prosecution under legislation approved by city council Tuesday night.
A convicted drunk driver will face additional fees of up to 225 dollars, less than half of the cost of the police work done at the scene of an arrest.
Police records indicate an average of 82 alcohol-related driving offenses in the city each year. If each of those alleged drunk drivers were convicted, the city could see something in the neighborhood of 18-thousand dollars in additional general fund revenue under terms of the new ordinance.
