Eastern Michigan Is Fastest Growing University In The State

Eastern Michigan University

With record freshman enrollment for two consecutive years, Eastern Michigan University is, by far, the fastest growing public university in the State of Michigan.

As WEMU's Bob Eccles reports, the statistics show, it's not even close:

With a record number of incoming freshmen, Eastern Michigan University has cemented its hold on the claim of being the fastest growing public university in the state.  Kevin Kucera is EMU's Associate Vice-President for Enrollment Services.

He says, from the Fall of 2011 to the Fall of 2012, Eastern Michigan University saw a nearly 22 percent increase in the number of freshmen.  Michigan State had the second-highest increase among public universities - just over4.5 percent. Kucera adds that the growth comes at a time when there is a dropping number of graduating high school seniors.

Eastern's growth efforts are bolstered by a tuition reciprocity agreement with the State of Ohio, so that residents of that state can attend EMU at in-state tuition rates.  Kucera says it's not all about quantity.  The incoming freshman class has a composite ACTs core that's one-point higher than last year's freshman class.
