EMU Faculty Extends Strike Suspension

By David Fair

Ypsilanti, MI – The faculty union at Eastern Michigan University has agreed to continue a suspension of its strike for 12 more hours while it considers the latest contract offer from the university's administration.
EMU faculty represented by the American Association of University Professors went on strike September first, but agreed to a 24-hour suspension of the strike and to return to classrooms Tuesday morning so that contract negotiations could resume.
The faculty union agreed to continue the strike suspension until midnight tonight to give its members a chance to consider the university's latest contract offer.
Faculty members will meet at Noon today to consider the proposal, and decide what action to take next.
University administrators say they're hopeful the situation will be resolved today.
