Faculty Vote No Confidence In President, Washtenaw Community College Trustees Still Support Bellanca

Washtenaw Community College faculty has overwhelmingly approved a no confidence vote for the school's president, but she still has the support of trustees.

Washtenaw Community College Trustee Richard Landau says the board continues to support President Rose Bellanca and her efforts to make the school a premier community college in Michigan and the country.

The Washtenaw Community College Education Association approved a vote of no confidence yesterday 158 to 22.  A lack of communication between the faculty and the administration was among the 13 reasons given for the no confidence vote.  WCCEA President Maryam Barrie says she regrets it has come to this, but hopes the faculty and administration can be partners in helping the college to move forward.

Trustee Richard Landau believes many community colleges in Michigan are facing similar challenges caused by the growth in the schools in recent years.  He says the shift to a professional management style is creating hard feelings among faculty.  Landau is deeply disappointed in the vote and fears it is further polarizing both sides.
