Governor Rick Snyder wants to spend more on Michigan students.  The governor made the announcement during his State of the State address last night.

The governor presents his budget proposal next month.  When he does, he plans to include the largest increase in per pupil spending in the last 15 years.

Brian Whiston is the state superintendent.  He says putting more money toward per pupil spending will be especially helpful for Michigan schools.

"That’s the money that districts can do innovative things with and they can make some changes in what they’re doing. And so it’s very exciting.”

But the budget has to go through a Legislature focused on making tax cuts.  Leaders in the Legislature say they’re waiting to see the governor’s proposal before passing judgment.
