Greenbelt Gets DDA Backing
By Brian Nemorovsky
Ann Arbor, MI – Ann Arbor mayor John Heiftje's "greenbelt" proposal has been endorsed by the city's Downtown Development Authority. The DDA resolution supporting the effort also calls for an increase in housing density, or "building up" to provide more housing opportunities in the city's core.
The greenbelt proposal will go before voters in November. It calls for extending the city's parkland acquisitions millage to prohibit development in open spaces around the city, including land in some adjoining townships.
