Inmates To Be Freed to Ease Jail Overcrowding

By Andrew Cluley

Washtenaw County, MI – Overcrowding conditions at the Washtenaw County jail should be eased in the next week or so.
Sheriff's department officials say the jail is about 60 inmates over capacity, and is under a court order to bring that number down. County Administrator Bob Guenzel says across-the-board sentence reductions will begin soon.
Sheriff's department Commander Dave Egeler says up to 20 inmates will also be boarded-out to other county jails.
County officials also plan to begin interviews in the next couple of weeks to fill a jail manager position approved by the county last year.
