Issues of the Environment: Development Issues In Northeast Ann Arbor

Pennsylvania-based Toll Brothers proposes a 109-acre, 491 unit housing development on Ann Arbor's Northeast side. The scope of the planned development has area residents concerned about traffic congestion and harm to area wetlands. In this week's "Issues of the Environment" we explore those concerns with Lisa Dusseau. Ms. Dusseau is spokesperson for the group, "Ann Arbor Northeast Alliance".

Overview

  *   As the market improves, multiple dense housing development are in the works for northeast Ann Arbor, some in an areas that has long been targeted for annexation and contain wetlands.

  *   A group of Ann Arborites living near the proposed development sites have concerns that they will exacerbate traffic, degrade wetlands, and lead to water quality problems in their community.

  *   Lisa Dusseau, a spokesperson for the Ann Arbor Northeast Alliance, says that her group is not opposed to development and understand these developments meet the standards for approval by City Council. Still, the group would like to see the projects scaled back.
