Livingston County Man Submits Signatures To Run Against Calley

A tea party activist has filed to run against Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley at the state Republican Party convention in August.  
Wes Nakagiri of Livingston County's Hartland Township on Monday said he turned in 33 signatures from members of the party's State Committee. He needed 21 from seven congressional districts.
The engineering manager announced his candidacy last year to protest Governor Rick Snyder's support for expanding Medicaid through the federal health care law.
The GOP's policy committee is expected to meet in July to certify Nakagiri's signatures. Snyder faces no opponent in the primary election. 
It's customary for convention delegates to get behind a gubernatorial candidate's choice of running mate. In 2010, though, tea party advocates backed someone over Calley before he ultimately withdrew his name.
