Long Tall Marcia Ball is beloved in the blues world and by WEMU listeners, so when we received a new disc by newcomer Long Tall Deb, we had to see if she could live up the name like Ms. Ball. Long Tall Deb Landolt is worthy of the name and our attention.
While Marcia Ball makes her home base in Austin, Deb Landolt is transplanted Texan now living in Columbus, Ohio, but her Texas twang and blues swagger remain intact. With great guitar licks from Columbus’ Sean Carney and guest appearances by Jimmy Thackery, Reese Wynans and the Roomful Of Blues horn players it’s a fairly sure thing that this disc would work for WEMU and it does. We premiered two of Long Tall Deb’s original tunes on International Women’s Day and mixed it in with Friday's requests for beautiful blues women during 89.1 Jazz.
