Mayor wants Greenbelt around Ann Arbor

By Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor, MI – Ann Arbor may John Hieftje says the city needs to act quickly if it wants to slow sprawl and preserve green space in and around the city.
Hieftje unveiled the Ann Arbor area parks and greenbelt program this morning. The proposal would extend the city's parkland acquisition millage, which is set to expire next year.
Hieftje says the plan would generate about 30-million dollars, which would generate another 50-million dollars in matching funds.
He says city council will discuss the proposal over the next month, and will hopefully put the issue before voters this November.
