The Republican governor says he's comfortable with the launch date after his administration tested computer systems and developed a plan to get the word out to the public. Coverage will be retroactive to the first day of the month in which people apply.

Snyder told The Associated Press the Medicaid expansion plan is a "great program" that will give people a better quality of life. He also says fewer uninsured will visit emergency rooms for uncompensated care, ultimately saving everyone money.

Expanding coverage to people making up to 133 percent of the poverty level is expected to help 320,000 adults in the first 12 months.
