Milan residents voted in favor of amending the city’s charter to dedicate funding for road repair.
Nearly 78% of voters agreed to the amendment.
Mayor Michael Armitage told WEMU that residents have been asking the city to address the issue for years. He says, “Ever since taking office I’ve heard from residents that they would be supportive of a millage if it was dedicated for roads.”
The millage will increase property taxes in Milan by one mill, or about $150 for the average homeowner each year.
Residents also voted to re-elect Mayor Michael Armitage, as well as to elect Martha Churchill, Mary Kerkes, and Christian Thompson to city council.
About 24% of Milan voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s election.
