New County Regulations for Well Water
By Andrew Cluley
Ann Arbor, MI – Washtenaw County officials plan to add to the types of wells requiring permits, and forbid homeowners from using both municipal and well water. It's part of an effort aimed at protecting ground water.
At a work session tonight, county commissioners will focus on changes to the county's well regulations.
County health regulation director Dick Fleece says currently, the county only requires a permit for drinking water wells. The new regulations would also require permits for monitoring, irrigation, extraction, and purge wells.
