No Chickens Here

By Bob Eccles

Ypsilanti, MI – Don't look for a change in Ypsilanti's city ordinances to allow residents to keep chickens in their yards.
City council voted down a resolution directing the city manager to draft a measure allowing residents to keep what are referred to by some as 'yard birds'.
Peter Thomason is leading the push to change the city ordinance. He says he's disappointed, but is not giving up.
In voting down the measure, councilmembers clucked, er, voiced concerns they've heard from residents about the bird flu as well as the smell and noise chicken coops and roosters might bring to their neighborhoods.
