Opposition Continues To Grow Against Proposed Washtenaw County Pipeline

Jan 2, 2015

Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club joins the fight against proposed natural gas pipeline.

The Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club has added its voice against a proposed natural gas pipeline that would cut through Washtenaw County. The Sierra Club has submitted comments to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission opposing Energy Transfer's Rover Pipeline.

The $4.3B project would transport natural gas from Ohio and states to the east through Michigan, into Canada. The company says the project will create up to 4,000 construction jobs in Michigan. Sierra Club officials asserts that the state already has enough pipeline capacity, and this project makes the nation more dependent on fossil fuels.

Residents interested in the pipeline can view maps of the proposed project at the Ann Arbor District Library, as well as county and western-Washtenaw township offices.
