Parking Structure Demolition on Hold

By Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor, MI – Plans to demolish the old two-story parking structure at the corner of First and Washington in Ann Arbor are on hold for at least two weeks.
City council voted last night to postpone a decision until its next meeting to give motorists who park in the structure, and the downtown development authority, more time to resolve where they would be able to park their cars when demolition does begin.
DDA Director Susan Pollay says the old structure needs about 250-thousand dollars in repairs if it is to stay open through the winter. She says the structure currently has 185 spaces, and will become a surface lot with about 60 spaces until the city finalizes plan for the property.
