Roundabouts for New Ann Arbor High School

By Andrew Cluley

Ann Arbor, MI – The Ann Arbor school district will build three roundabouts on Maple Road near the new high school to offset increases in traffic.
The district's school board has approved a memo of understanding with the Washtenaw County road commission to have the roundabouts open by the time the new high school opens.
Road commission Assistant Director of Engineering, Jim Harmon, says the roundabouts will actually cost less to maintain than a comparable intersection with traffic signals. Harmon says similar roundabouts near Saline's new high school have proven to be safe and effective.
The roundabouts will be located at the main entrance of the new school, and the exit and entrance ramps to M-14.
