School Board & Administration Continue Squabbling

By Andrew Cluley

Ypsilanti, MI – Debate continues to simmer over what the Ypsilanti school board meant last week when it took exclusive control of the district's budget and budget oversight.
Last night, the board approved eight purchase orders related to grant purchases that were approved last year, but billing delays forced the district to put them in this year's budget as a new line item.
Trustee Cameron Getto says says last week's budget control resolution clearly did not include grant purchase items, and some on the board accused school administrators of not cooperating.
However, Superintendent David Zuhlke says he is trying to cooperate, but is still not sure what the board meant by exclusive budget oversight and control.
Zuhlke says he's also waiting for the board to define what it means by discretionary spending.
