npr.org

The WashtenawCounty Health Department has confirmed that a second local person has been infected with the Zikavirus after traveling to an area where the condition is active.

So far, 58 people in Washtenaw County have been tested for the virus that can be sexually transmitted.

While Zika virus infected mosquitoes are currently not found in Michigan, there are other mosquitoes to look out for, such as the West Nile mosquitoes.  Susan Cernilgia is a spokesperson for the Washtenaw County Health Department.

"That's often thrived in hotter drier seasons, it could be this year, it's been a bit drier, it's hot off and on. We could see more of that type of mosquito."

Mosquito repellents are recommended for outdoor activities.
