The Secretary of State’s mobile office will be issuing children’s ID cards to Ypsilanti parents at no cost tomorrow.

ID Ypsi is a pilot program from the Secretary of State and Ypsilanti Community Schools that helps parents and guardians apply for an identification card for kids under 18.

Yen Azzaro is a spokesperson for YCS. She says not having a state ID can be a barrier for families to things such as transitioning to a driver’s license and "it can even aid families in something as simple as travel preparation, getting medical attention, gaining government assistance.”

Azzaro says,

“Doing this early on really sets our families up for a culture of having identification for kids so they can easily transition to things as teens and adults later on in life.”

On Tuesday the Secretary of State’s mobile office will be at Ford Learning Center at 8 AM and at the Adams STEM Academy at 1 PM.
