Anne Brown is running to represent Michigan's 54th State House District. This is Anne's submission for WEMU's "Soapbox Summer" series.
Hello WEMU Friends,
My name is Anne Brown and I am a candidate for the 54th District House seat. I have lived in the Ypsilanti area 38 years and have worked personally and professionally to make a difference in our community. I grew up in a working class community and learned the value of hard work and the importance of social justice from my parents. These values drive my commitment, work and passion for helping others. I am seeking to serve as your next State Representative because I want to use my knowledge of and experience in this district to work for the people of this district.
A vote for me will result in sending a community advocate to Lansing who is ready day one to take on the challenges we face in education, economic development and the environment. I have a track record of getting things done for our citizens. You can trust me to put the needs of people first and to fight for what we care about most.
We must make Investments in Education as the funding mechanism for pre- school, k-12 and college. We must also provide access and affordability for all, because education is the vehicle that gives each person an opportunity to develop their potential.
We must make Investments in Economic Development because some communities stand at full employment where others are still struggling to create opportunities for our young people aged 18-34 years. We know 76% of all new jobs are created through the growth and expansion of existing businesses. We need to nurture and strengthen our existing small, medium and large employers
We must make Investments in Infrastructure such as water and sewer, roads, parks, and storm water runoff for future sustainability.
