State Lawmaker Proposing Electoral Changes

Wikipedia

LANSING - President Barack Obama secured every electoral vote on his path to re-election Michigan, where Republicans haven't won a presidential race in a quarter-century but currently control state government.

That's causing some Republicans to propose scrapping the winner-take-all system and instead dividing electoral votes proportionally. That would guarantee GOP candidates come away with something.

State Rep. Pete Lundis revising legislation that would have apportioned electoral votes to the presidential candidate who wins each of 14 congressional districts, with two additional votes going to the winner of the statewide popular vote. He plans to introduce new legislation soon.

Lund is declining to give details for now but could end up proposing to split votes proportionally by popular vote. Democrats say Republican attempts to change how electoral votes are apportioned are election-rigging.
