Suspect Arraigned in Series of Rapes; Other Crimes

By Clark Smith

Ypsilanti, MI – A 38-year-old Pittsfield Township man already in jail has now been charged with raping an Eastern Michigan University student last spring.
James Holland Junior was arraigned yesterday on six counts relating to the sexual assault of a student on the EMU campus last May. Holland was also arraigned on 19 additional charges in six other cases not related to the EMU incident. Those cases include several rapes, armed robberies, kidnapping, carrying concealed weapons, and a 1991 Ypsilanti murder.
Holland was arrested in January by Michigan Department of Corrections officials for a parole violation. He has been held in the Washtenaw County jail since then. Police say the series of sexual assaults and robberies on and near the EMU campus ended after Holland was locked up.
Magistrate Camille Brown ordered Holland held without bond pending a preliminary examination April 4th.
