Eastern Michigan University students will start moving into their dorms this morning as the new school year gets underway.

1,400 students will move in on Friday, and another 1,600 later this weekend.  EMU officials are asking anyone who is not moving in or helping students to park on the perimeter of campus.

Geoff Larcom is a spokesperson for Eastern.

"There will be traffic coming in up and down Oakwood, which is the street that runs north and south along the western side of the university, so I would keep an eye on that. But there's not gonna be an enormous amount of backup otherwise, I don't think."

The Washtenaw Avenue and Oakwood Street parking lot is also recommended for those who are not moving in.
