The jazz trio, Tri-Fi comprised of pianist Matthew Fries, bassist Phil Palombi and drummer Keith Hall recently celebrated their tenth anniversary as a working unit with their most expressive recording to date: Staring Into the Sun.
They joined me on WEMU to discuss the genesis of the band as the working trio for singer Curtis Stigers and how their musical concept has evolved over ten years in a co-operative, creative and democratic fashion. As a trio, they are a unified musical entity. Each musician works to complement the other. The resulting music is thoughtful but never predictable.
