To the WEMU/Eastern Michigan University community:
On behalf of WEMU, please accept my sincere apology for the UM-centric Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me live show last evening. We are extremely disappointed in the overall focus of last night’s production and have expressed our serious concerns to the program’s management.
When we reached out to the show to come in for our 50th anniversary celebration we wanted it to be held on the EMU campus but the program requires an auditorium/theater that seats at least 2000 people. The program rejected Pease Auditorium as too small and the EMU Convocation Center as too large. They settled on Hill Auditorium, assuring us they would remain sensitive to the fact that WEMU represents Eastern Michigan University and that the show was in celebration of our 50th anniversary.
Unfortunately that didn’t happen. We were shocked and surprised that the program centered so heavily on the University of Michigan. It was not our intent and we are both embarrassed and disappointed.
We have reached out to the show to make amends both on-air and to the EMU community and hope we can at least partially right this wrong.
With apologies,
Molly Motherwell
