Washtenaw County Election Results 5/7/13

A light ballot in Washtenaw County on Tuesday day means relatively quick results. The results, keep in mind, are unofficial until certified by the Board of Canvassers.

Voters in Dexter Village have opted to continue moving forward with the process of becoming a city. The measure passed on a vote of 460-to-408. The next step will be the election of a nine-member charter commission. Once a draft charter is adopted and passed by the state, incorporation into city-hood will go before a vote of the people.

Voters in three Washtenaw County school districts passed millage renewal questions. Two renewal questions passed easily in the Dexter District. Renewal of 18-mills and a three-mill cushion measure to offset the impact of the Headlee override.  Chelsea Voters overwhelmingly approved renewal of 18-mills of tax levy for general operations and one-and-a-half mills for any losses incurred by he Headlee override.     And, a 20-year, 18-mill renewal passed in the Milan District as well.

Finally, nearly 90-percent of voters in Sharon Township passed a half-mill tax renewal to help pay for fire protection and emergency medical services.
