Washtenaw County Road Salt Supplies Dwindling

Feb 10, 2014

Local supplies of rock salt are dwindling as the snow continues to fall in Washtenaw County.

Washtenaw County Road Commission Operations Director Jim Harmon says they should have enough to last through the rest of winter if they use it sparingly.

Harmon says common de-icers like rock salt do not function properly when the temperature drops below 15 degrees. When it's that cold, he says they county relies on a salt/sand mixture, or just plain plowing.
