Washtenaw County, along with the its health department and health officer, has taken legal action on isses related to the area's 1,4 Dioxane contamination plume.

All three parties have filed a motion in the Washtenaw County Circuit Court seeking to intervene in litigation between the State of Michigan and Gelman Sciences, the company responsible for the local plume.

Ellen Rabinowitz is the health officer for the county.  She says the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality recently made a decision that motivated them to take legal action.

"We issued emergency rules at the end of October that lowered the clean-up criteria and focused on clean-up. And the other thing is that the governor categorized the situation as a public health concern."

The court could make a decision on the issue on December 15th.
