WEMU Expands Local Content On Weekdays

Ypsilanti Radio WEMU

WEMU is pleased to announce that starting Monday, August 6th, NPR's Morning Edition will be heard for an extra hour each day on the WEMU airwaves.  David Fair will anchor the additional hour of coverage from 9:00 am to 10:00 am with a focus on an expansion of local content.  "Civic Matters" with Mary Morgan will be heard Monday at 9:50 am. Tuesdays at 9:50 am a new feature with Deb Polich, "creative:impact," will explore how the creative industry helps keep our community moving forward. On Wednesday sat 9:50 am you'll get updates on our partnership withConcentrate Media's "On the Ground"project currently underway in Ypsilanti.  Thursday at 9:50 am will feature a replay of our long-time feature, "Cinema Chat".  And "Art and Soul" with Lisa Barry will be replayed Friday mornings at 9:50 am while we work on developing a feature focused on issues important to our community.

This move is being made for two reasons - to allow Linda Yohn time to focus more on her transition to retirementover the next few months, and to bring our listeners and supporters even more great local news content focused on topics that aren't being covered thoroughly enough by other media in this market (according to WEMU listeners).  Linda will move to a 10:00 am - 1:00 pm air shift while Michael Jewett will move to 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.

89.1, WEMU, is a listener-supported, NPR affiliate with a format of jazz, local news, and blues in addition to NPR news, information, and cultural programming.  The station broadcasts to an eight county area that includes all or part of Washtenaw, Wayne, Oakland, Livingston, Lenawee, Monroe, and Lucas (OH), streams live 24 hours a day at wemu.org, and has a free downloadable app for iPhone and Android.
