Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. WEMU first participated in #GivingTuesday in 2013. Over the years the event has become a beloved WEMU tradition.
It truly is a celebration of giving! WEMU conducts a one-day pledge drive and gives back at the same time. At 10 AM we open the doors for community tours, offer a free hot chocolate, coffee, and cookie buffet in The King Hall Multi-Cultural Lounge and present an all-day jazz and blues jam session in the lounge with The Kurt Krahnke Trio. Great musicians from all over the Detroit - Ann Arbor - Ypsilanti area trade musical chairs with Kurt and the trio from 10 AM to 5 PM. Student musicians are warmly welcomed to jam with pros! #GivingTuesday in 2017 will be one the final events to celebrate 40 Years Of Jazz on WEMU and #GivingTuesday will be a great, swinging time once again. Keep checking back with the WEMU Facebook Page and WEMU.ORG for #GivingTuesday updates.
