Sunday Best: Torch songs warmed us up on this cold and blustery Sunday morning.  Lamenting love lost and enjoying the music of Lena Horne, Adelaide Hall and Helen Humes, among others.

The Roots Music Project: Warm up with a set of Surf Music and hear tracks from The Balham Alligators

The In Crowd: This week a selection of lesser known singers, like Toni Harper, Jean DuShon and Helyne Stewart, and a feature on the beautiful, late-career duets between Ella Fitzgerald and guitarist Joe Pass.

The Groove Yard: The Groove Yard wraps up its series on jazz to soothe the spirit and soul with artists like Mary Lou Williams, Oliver Nelson, Brother Jack McDuff, and Les McCann & Eddie Harris -- plus songs from 1966 albums as WEMU's 50th anniversary celebrations continue.

From Memphis To Motown: This week's show featured music from some of the great blues and soul recordings of 1965. You'll hear from Jr. Walker, Junior Wells, Ray Charles and others.

Cuban Fantasy: This week's we feature Hector Lavoe's Fania date "Comedia". With iconic cover art showing Lavoe as Chaplin's "Little Tramp". 3 long and rhythmically strong tracks including "El Cantante", a gift to Hector from Ruben Blades, and the title of the Lavoe biopic. Candido Camero and Graciela Perez in the first hour. Music from, and in tribute to Israel Lopez "Cachao", in the second hour, as well as some funky rhythmic fun from Mitch Frohman's recent date.

The Big City Blues Cruise:  B big ol' Blues Birthday celebration this week on the Big City Blues Cruise. We celebrated Huey "Piano" Smith (1/26/34), Elmore James (1/27/18), Bobby "Blue" Bland (1/27/30), Ruth Brown (1/30/28), Roosevelt Sykes (1/31/1906), Paul deLay (1/31/52), and Charlie Musselwhite (1/31/44). We also remembered Big Chief Bo Dollis of the Wild Magnolias, who passed away Tuesday at age 71.
