Work Underway To Finalize Washtenaw County Primary Election Results

The results were in within hours of the polls closing Tuesday night, but the election process is far from over.

From the largest landslide in Washtenaw County to Manchester Schools bond proposal passing by a single vote, none of the primary results are official.  The Washtenaw County Board of Canvassers has begun their work certifying this week's election, but they still have close to two weeks to complete the process. That's important for any Manchester voter that might want a re-count since the paperwork can't be filed until canvassing is finished.  Elections Director Ed Golembiewski says there's also plenty of time for anyone deciding to launch a write-in candidacy for the November general election.  He says, "The filing deadline for write in candidates interested in running in the November election is the second Friday prior to the election at four o'clock."

This year that deadline falls on October 24th.

Candidates hoping to get their name on the November ballot have missed their chance, that deadline came last month.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
