Ypsi School Closings to be announced May 26th

By Andrew Cluley

Ypsilanti, MI – Ypsilanti Public Schools interim Superintendent James Hawkins says he'll announce on May 26th which elementary schools will be closed to help reduce a budget deficit pegged at more than five-million dollars.
Hawkins says a building report presented to the school board Monday night will be one of the factors used in deciding which school or schools will close.
Human resources director John Fulton says the district has 39 unused elementary school classrooms, with some buildings using only half of their classrooms.
Hawkins says those who wish to comment on the process should do so now to help make this as collaborative an effort as possible.
