Ypsilanti City Council will discuss funding additional soil tests for the Water Street Redevelopment site.

Council members will vote on a contract extension with environmental services company AKT Peerless.  The contract to continue Brownsfield services at the Water Street site would be extended for a month.

Ypsilanti Community Development Director Beth Ernat says more tests will help officials determine a new plan to remediate contamination at the Water Street site.  “We need to know exactly what we’re dealing with," she says. "That’s why we’re continuing with the testing.”

Ernat says the additional lab work will cost the city around $5,000.

The Ypsilanti City Council will vote on the issue at a meeting tonight.  It begins at 6 PM at on 1 South Huron Street.
